We have a decent range of ages across our Drag2Zero team. We perhaps wouldn’t be popular in naming the oldest member, but with our thoughts on the young guns out in Italy for the U23 Giro d’Italia, we take a look at the youngest member of our team, Sam Murray.
Sam was an automatic team entry in 2018 as he is the son of Keith Murray who joined the team in 2016. As you would expect of the son of someone who has been working in the bike industry for years, Sam has been riding a bike more or less since he learnt to walk. He was racing CX at the age of 4, and since taking part in his first time trial in 2015 hasn’t looked back.
So far this season he has been racing all over the north of England, competing mainly in fast 10’s and some 25’s. Best results have been a 52:36 over 25 on the VTTA Notts course with the fastest 10 so far being 20:12 on the quick Levens course. Sam’s main aim of the season this year is to get a podium place in the junior BBAR; he is currently ranked 3rd and we are all hopeful that he will be moving up the rankings over the next few weeks. Sam fits training around college where he is currently working for A levels in Business, Applied Science and PE.
Wishing Sam all the luck for this weekend’s Cleveland Wheelers 25 – he is second seed to World pro tour rider Harry Tanfield (Katusha Alpecin) – no pressure!
